Zazu is a lively African-style piece that we designed to be fun to play and easy to put together. Each player only needs to master a few patterns to make the piece work, and we have also offered an easy introduction to soloing through the use of the C pentatonic scale. We have found this to be an ideal introduction to 12/8, with the biggest challenge being the syncopated rhythmic ostinato in the lower marimba parts, which forms the heart of the main groove. Our ensembles have always loved playing Zazu and we hope you do too!
